Post 16 Activities
Nuffield STEM Bursary Scheme
We offer bursaries (funded by the Nuffield Foundation) to first year post-16 students across the West Midlands area. Anyone studying an Advanced or Higher science course may apply. This includes vocational as well as academic courses. The scheme helps students to take part in STEM-based projects, lasting 4-6 weeks, in universities, industry or research institutions during the summer holidays. Unlike work experience schemes, students carry out projects which are well defined from the start and have an outcome that is achievable within the time available and which will make a contribution to the work of the host organisation. Students are encouraged to find their own placements. create a future will work with successful bursary applicants to secure a bursary placement. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to find placements for students that have not been able to find their own. Placements should be between 4-6 weeks and enable the bursary holder to experience science, engineering, technology or mathematics being undertaken through research or being applied in the workplace. Potential applicants are invited to an information day which is usually held in January/February each year. 2010 Nuffield Students should be competing their Bursary Placements this week. Please be aware that you will be expected to display your work and present what you have done during a Nuffield Presentation Event in November 2010. Details to follow. 2011 Nuffield Students should watch this page for events
