Parachutes

A Technology Challenge for Key Stage 2, Year 3-6

This fun practical workshop is suitable for years 3-6. Children experiment with parachutes to safely drop an egg to the ground! Along the way we dip into a history of parachutes and think about what makes them work.

Up to sixty children can take part in your school hall, with the session lasting about two hours.

During the session you can expect some of the following:

  • A brief history of parachutes and how they work.
  • Experimenting with a range of materials to see which will make the best parachute.
  • Designing a method of attaching the egg to the parachute to carry it safely to the ground.
  • Testing the parachutes! Don't worry, it's not messy, we have special eggs!
  • A chance to record and reflect upon the experience.
