K’Nex Challenge & Workshop
Young Engineers K'Nex Challenge - A National Competition for KS2
This hands-on workshop provides a unique challenging experience delivered through an engineering focus. Up to sixty children can take part in each challenge in your school hall, with each session lasting around two hours.
We bring all that is required for the Challenge. During the session you can expect the following:
- A short introduction to the activity as an engineering task including, where possible, meeting a “real” engineer
- Children are given the design challenge and the K’Nex construction material is demonstrated if necessary. Children get into pairs and design their model on paper so that they have a chance to share ideas.
- About an hour is set aside for the models to be built. During this time students are developing skills in teamwork and problem solving as well as building self confidence. Finally the models are viewed, participants congratulated on their achievement, and winners are chosen.

A record sheet is provided for the students to record their planning and a certificate is given to each participant. The two winners are subsequently invited to the next round of the tournament. Please note that, currently in 2012, Young Engineers for Britain are not supporting the national K'Nex Challenge Competition.
